Where is Jocotepec? That was the first question I asked when I searched Zumba.com to find Zumba classes in the Chapala area. I learned that Jocotepec (referred to as "Joco" by the locals) is a small town of around 40,000 inhabitants, situated on the west end of Lake Chapala. We discovered the Roca Azul RV Park, located about a mile outside of town, across the road from the large raspberries fields managed by Driscoll Berry Farms. The RV Park was a wonderful place to spend a couple of weeks! It is  in a large Sports Park, providing an endless variety of healthy activities, with a large swimming pool, a nice tennis court, volleyball, basketball, tether-ball courts, and more. We discovered that quite a few North Americans have lived at Roca Azul full time for 2 to 4 years. What a great place to live!
The climate in Jocotepec was perfect, the people were friendly, and the town has the traditional Mexican feel that we enjoy. We fell in love with the area! Then, I discovered that just a one mile walk up the cobblestone road to the center of town was Daniela's Zumba studio. Jocotepec had everything I needed!
I attended Zumba class at Daniela's studio in Jocotepec twice last week. Maria taught the class when I attended on Wednesday. She is such a natural! Her dance moves are so smooth that she makes Zumba look easy! I later found out that the two Zumba Instructors at this studio, Maria and Daniela, are sisters and they alternate teaching the classes.
Maria Teaching Zumba Class
Maria has been a certified Zumba Instructor (ZIN) for 2 years. She is also a graduate in Psychology.
I contacted Daniela Ibarra Garavito through the Zumba.com Class Finder several weeks ago to locate her Zumba studio and she replied by e-mail promptly. She invited me to attend her class and gave me the details. Daniela is also a certified Zumba Instructor (ZIN). The Zumba Studio is on Degollado Street #30, behind the local market in the center of town. Classes are at 9:00 AM Monday through Friday and 7:30 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The cost is 20 pesos (about $1.55 U.S.) per class. Great fun! Great exercise!
