Activos! is a great gym in the small town of La Manzanilla. On the first story, there is a workout room with a good variety of equipment including weights and weight machines, stationary bicycles, and a floor exercise area. The second story is the class room where Zumba is held. It has a smooth concrete floor for easy turning moves, a beautiful palapa roof, and open air windows and fans for good ventilation.  What a wonderful atmosphere for a Zumba class!
I attended June's Zumba class today at 9:00 AM and it was so much fun that I can't wait to go again this week! She emphasized several important points about Zumba:
     1. The most important thing is to keep moving! The steps will come more easily after the third class.
     2. If you are out of breath to the point that you can't talk and move at the same time, slow down and lower your arms below your heart! Soon, you will catch your breath.
     3. If it hurts, don't do it! Modify the steps to protect any part of your body that may be injured or sore, such as your knees or back. Do less jumping and twisting if needed.
This is June's fourth year teaching in La Manzanilla. Her classes and the Activos! gym have increased exercise awareness in this town. The slogan on the front of the gym is "Estilo de Vida--Dienestar Familiar, Ejercicio, Nutricion", meaning 'Life Style -- Family, Exercise, Nutrition". The emphasis is on "Healthy Living" at Activos! This is my kind of place!
Activos! is a gym on the main road into La Manzanilla, just 20 minutess north of San Patricio-Melaque. June Nery is a Licensed Zumba Instructor. She teaches Zumba every Tuesday and Thursday morning, from  9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the winter months.  The cost of a Zumba class or a workout session in the gym is 50 pesos (about $4.00). Other classes are available as well, including Spinning, Zumba Kids, Ballet Kids, Tango, Martial Arts, and Z-Fitness. To verify class schedule, e-mail June at june@visitlamanzanilla.com.
